At an altitude of 1,740 metres, Imlil is the highest village in the Toubkal National Park accessible by road. It is the base camp for climbers attempting Jebel Toubkal but also the perfect starting point for day hikes accessible to all.

Imlil is the gateway to Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 metres. Even without climbing the summit, the Imlil valley offers exceptional hiking through walnut orchards, along irrigation canals, and into villages perched at altitude. The cultural immersion with local Berber communities is as memorable as the landscapes.

The Toubkal National Park

Created in 1942, this park protects the high valleys of the Atlas and their exceptional biodiversity. You may spot golden eagles, Barbary macaques, and many varieties of orchids. The local Berber communities have lived in harmony with this environment for millennia.

Berber Mountain Culture

The Amazigh (Berber) people of the Atlas are some of the most welcoming in Morocco. In Imlil, you can observe traditional architecture with dry-stone walls, earthen roofs, and carved wooden doors. Women weave brightly coloured carpet blankets while the men tend their terraced fields.
