Essaouira is one of the most photogenic destinations on the Moroccan Atlantic coast. Its medina, entirely classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a magical labyrinth of blue and white alleys, ramparts open to the ocean wind, and a lively fishing port.

About this excursion

Essaouira is a jewel of the Atlantic coast, known as the "Wind City of Africa". This UNESCO World Heritage medina enchants visitors with its blue and white architecture, its historic ramparts overlooking the ocean, and its authentic fishing port where blue boats rock in the harbour. Stroll through the souks, discover local argan wood crafts, and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch by the sea.

The Medina & Ramparts

The medina of Essaouira is perfectly preserved. Walk along the Skala de la Ville, the sea bastion lined with ancient cannons, for a breathtaking panoramic view over the Atlantic. The Portuguese fortifications blend perfectly with the Andalusian-influenced architecture.

The Fishing Port

The blue fishing port of Essaouira is one of the most photographed in Morocco. Watch fishermen unload their catch in the early morning. The market overflows with fresh fish, sardines, and prawns that you can have grilled on the spot at one of the small restaurants opposite the port.

Crafts & Arts

Essaouira is renowned for its marquetry in thuya wood, a fragrant wood unique to this region of Morocco. Artisans craft jewellery boxes, chessboards, and sculptures. The city has also become a thriving centre for contemporary Moroccan painting and music.
